It’s Happening: Your Gift Makes a Difference

Denver East Theatre Group relies on annual, tax-deductible donations to enhance the experience for every student. We invite parents, alumni, faculty, staff, parents of alumni and friends to come together with philanthropic support to continue to support the group’s mission, values and vision.

Denver East Theatre Group values donor participation at all levels, no matter the amount.

Setting the Tone: Our Mission

The East Angel Friends & Alumni Foundation’s Mission is an important one:

  • Support East High School in achieving its mission
  • Work in partnership with the school to foster a sense of community and connection
  • Promote student achievement
  • Raise funds for the benefit of the school community
  • Foster alumni relations
  • Expand the support base
  • Preserve and promote the history of the school and its alumni
  • Assist in preserving and improving the buildings and grounds of the school
Current Initiatives:

Following a comprehensive evaluation of our historic auditorium, EAFAF teamed up with EHS staff and DPS to tackle its greatest need – replacing a seriously outdated sound system. The updates are finally complete and we look forward to the next East production. Many thanks to everyone who donated to the much needed upgrades.

EAFAF will continue our faculty grants program which covers a wide range of enrichment experiences for our students and will be making $55,000 available to teachers in 2018-19. For applications, please contact Erik Swanson at erik@swansonre.com or download the application.

Our Student Assistance Fund and Angel Packs programs continue to provide fundamental support for hundreds of students and families – both of these programs also offer great volunteer opportunities for parents – feel free to contact us with your interest through the Volunteer button on this page. There are more terrific volunteer opportunities to be found there as well – we need you!

We are Committed:  Student Experience

The East High School Angels are the proud home of an exceptional DEFT team that consistently places among the best in the country. Click here to learn more about the different kinds of speech and debate, and get to know our outstanding coaches.

Why participate?

DEFT’s purpose is to empower participating forensics (speech and debate) students to reach their highest potential by developing:

  • Effective communication skills
  • Critical thinking
  • Integrity and ethical behavior

Through the training, practice and performances of various events and tournaments, students acquire skills and experience that supplements their education and contributes to the enhancement of their chosen careers throughout the rest of their lives. Using DEFT as an acronym for results, we help cultivate the following qualities in the students who pass through our programs:

Discipline— Students who participate in forensics typically excel in the classroom and in life because of the extraordinary commitments of time, practice, study and energy invested in their performances.

Eloquence— The ability to clearly and convincingly communicate is an intrinsic quality of individuals who are successful leaders in our communities, our schools, our businesses, our government and our society overall.

Focus— In a society that overwhelms students with options, forensics enables them to take advantage of a personal interest or a career ambition, then research, analyze, shape and communicate subjects that are relevant and interesting to them.

Transformation— Many students, when first entering forensics, struggle to harness substantive ideas, dreams and insights and shape them into language that has the power to change minds, stimulate creativity and move others to action. Progressing through four years of forensics helps equip students with the skills and abilities to transform thoughts into effective communication.

We are proud to be involved in such a significant undertaking. The resources gathered, directed and invested in our teachers, coaches and students reap dividends beyond measure. To be a part of something that shapes young lives is an enterprise well worth all the resources needed to fuel such an undertaking.

We are Committed:  Student Experience

The EHS DEFT program succeeds in part due to the generosity of our alumni, parents and families. We also receive sponsorships from local businesses.
